  • Gross weight or registered gross weight of not more than 9,000 pounds.
  • Restricted to passenger cars or trucks meeting the weight limit. “Dune buggy” type vehicles do not qualify.

How to Apply Using Form MV-904SR?

Follow these steps carefully:

  1. Check plate availability — Visit the PennDOT Driver and Vehicle Services website at www.pa.gov/dmv, go to Vehicle Services → Registration Plates → Personalized Registration Plates, and use the availability tool. Configurations are not reserved until PennDOT receives and approves a complete application with payment. Requests are processed first-come, first-served.

Fees for Personalized Street Rod Registration Plates

Current fees (from Form MV-70S, Bureau of Motor Vehicles Schedule of Fees, revised April 2026) are:

  • Street Rod registration plate (first-time issuance): $69.00
  • Street Rod plate with personalization: $205.00 (includes the $136 personalization fee applicable to most specialty plates)

Additional registration cards cost $2 each. The personalization fee covers only the plate order—it does not renew your vehicle registration. Always verify the latest amounts on the official MV-70S fee schedule at www.pa.gov/dmv, as fees can change.

Processing Time, Delivery, and Important Restrictions

Allow 8 to 10 weeks for delivery after PennDOT receives a complete, approved application.

Important points:

  • No refund is issued if you cancel after the order is placed with the manufacturer.
